Former Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) women’s volleyball head coach Oliver Almadro is set to handle the UP Fighting Maroons in the upcoming UAAP tournament announced last February 3, 2024.

The UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development confirmed their latest move following Almadro’s appointment as their program director five months ago.

Aside from calling the shots for the Fighting Maroons in the upcoming UAAP season, Almadro is also the current coach of the Letran Lady Knights in the NCAA.

“He has the experience of building championship teams and he will have a helping hand in the form of our new sponsor for our volleyball program,” said UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development director Bo Perasol

Almadro’s resume is enough to help the team bring back its heydays after leading the Ateneo women’s volleyball program to a championship title last 2019 season.

Before receiving the assignment to handle the women’s team, Almadro was already a certified champion in the men’s division where he led the Ateneo male team to several UAAP titles.

However, Almadro and the Ateneo program mutually parted ways after the women’s team failed to make the Final Four of the UAAP for the first time in a decade.

Almadro continued his coaching job as the head coach of the Petro Gazz Angels in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) and will now embark on a new journey with UP.

“I’m honored to be given this opportunity. I’m aware that it’ll be hard, but it’s actually easy to trust in the process because of all those who believe in me,” Almadro said.
