One Filipino athlete just made history after becoming the world no.1 gymnast in the men’s floor exercise category.
Tokyo Olympics-bound Carlos Yulo still can’t believe his latest achievement after the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) named him as the top gymnast in the floor exercise.
Yulo was a revelation after his impressive run during the All-Japan Gymnastics Championships, as the prized Filipino athlete was able to clinch back-to-back bronze medals.
The 20-year-old star cemented his number one place with a score of 70 points, sharing it with Spain’s Rayderley Zapta while Kirill Prokopev ranked third with a score of 64 points.
Yulo’s sacrifice of flying out from the Philippines to set up his training camp in Japan is finally paying off but reiterated that his focus is still on winning the gold medal in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Yulo is joined by Ej Obiena, Eumir Marcial, and Irish Magno who already secured their seats for the 2021 Olympics representing team Philippines.
