One killed, one hurt as motorcycle crashes into parked dump truck

ROXAS CITY – A driver died while his back rider was seriously injured after their motorcycle crashed into a parked dump truck Wednesday morning at Barangay Aglibacao, Jamindan, Capiz.

Police identified the victims as Mark Paul Vigo, 25, single, and his back rider Mario Garino, 34, both residents of Brgy. Baye-baye also in Jamindan town.

Police Staff Sgt. Jerson Vigo, Jamindan Municipal Police Station investigator, said the two were on their way home from Brgy. Linambacan around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday when they rammed into the dump truck driven by Romeo Catillo, 56, of Lambunao, Iloilo.

Vigo suffered fatal injuries on the head and in other parts of his body while Garino injured portions of his body.

The victims were immediately rescued by Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Jamindan and taken to Mambusao District Hospital but Vigo died minutes later.

It was learned that Vigo and Garino were both employees of MDRRMO in Jamindan.

The dump truck and the driver are in the custody of Jamindan police station.

Meanwhile, a 72-year-old man died after he was bumped by a motorcycle also on Wednesday morning at Barangay Pawa, Panay, Capiz.

Gualberto Bernales of Barangay Bunga was declared dead on arrival at Capiz Emmanual Hospital here.

Motorcycle driver Jonathan Valaquio, 26, of Barangay Jamul-awon also in Panay voluntarily surrendered to the police.

The victim was on his way to a fishpond on his e-bike when he was bumped by Valaquio’s Honda Click 125 motorcycle.

Valaquio and his back rider were taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital for treatment.
