After six weeks of dominance in the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 8, the defending champions Blacklist International finally tasted their first-ever defeat at the hands of ONIC PH.
With an innovative and unique pool drafted by ONIC, it was a clear snowball in their two-game series that resulted in a 2-0 sweep against the heavily favored Blacklist team.
ONIC’s Akai and Selena pick were the game-changers in the first duel as they provided the perfect map control and jungle invasion they needed to slow down Blacklist’s farm and kill potential in the late game.
The space created by Akai and Selena helped their Paquito build his items fast which became evident in the 14th-minute of the showdown when the clash favored their side for the Game 1 victory.
During Game 2, Blacklist used their comfort picks in hopes of turning the tide when they locked in V33NUS’ Mathilda, Edward’s Benedetta, and OHEB’s Kimmy.
Blacklist led in the middle game when they were able to win the important clashes in the pit but ONIC once again delivered in the clutch courtesy of Beemo’s Jawhead.
With three heroes down on their side, Beemo and Baloyskie were the only left defending in their base.
Trying to execute something for a game-changer, Beemo found the perfect target when he cast his ejector on Wise’s Barats that led to a successful tower hold and eventually, the win.
“Sobrang halaga yung panalo na ito, pero against Blacklist syempre dahil top 1 sila, sobrang happy kami,” said ONIC’s head coach.
