The students, faculty, and staff of the University of the Philippines Visayas – College of Arts and Sciences (UPV-CAS) converged and actively participated during the Opening Program and Open House on Feb. 20 to set the tone of the CAS Week Celebration 2023.
Dr. Alice Joan Ferrer, CAS Dean, welcomed the students to the College and told them that the celebration, with the theme “CASKultura,” will introduce them to the CAS culture.
“So, for this week, you will be immersed in CAS culture – you will know more of your academic group,” she said.
The introduction of academic organizations, academic units, and non-academic units – along with some of their chairpersons and heads – drew cheers and applauses from the audience.
Some students showcased their talents in dancing and singing through their respective performances, to the delight of those in attendance.
In addition, some segments of the program included games and the introduction of Busalian Kang CAS 2023 candidates.
Ferrer mentioned the series of activities for CAS Week 2023 which include On Cam: Unmasking the CAS Outstanding Faculty Members; Market Place; CAStilingban: Selebrasyon Kang Aton Pagbalik and Busalian Kang CAS 2023; CASadyahan with a Twist; and CAS Recognition and Alumni Night.
Meanwhile, academic and non-academic units under CAS prepared food and refreshments for students, faculty, staff, and guests during the Open House.
Those who participated visited several offices to indulge in snacks, candies, coffee, and beverages.
The activity helped students familiarize themselves with the offices at the CAS, while some of the staff from the central administration were able to catch up with their counterparts and colleagues at the College.
The CAS Week 2023 will run from Feb. 20 to 25 and activities will be held at the CAS, Miagao campus, and the UPV Auditorium, Iloilo City campus.
Details on these activities are posted on the College of Arts and Sciences, UP Visayas Facebook page. (Mr. Carlson B. Alelis, IPO)
