More than 15,000 positions are up for grabs today, April 22, 2022 in the Summerfest Job Fair 2022 at Robinsons Mall as the city slowly resumes economic activities.
Gabriel Felix Umadhay head of the City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) said that their office has partnered with 67 companies offering both local and overseas employment to the job seekers.
“This is open for all. We have skilled-jobs and white-collared jobs para sa mga gapangita obra. Kadto lang sila sa aton venue,” he said in a phone interview on Thursday.
For local employment, Umadhay said applicants can choose from positions offered by business processing outsourcing (BPO) companies, construction, food and service providers among others.
The job fair will also offer overseas employment for domestic helpers, nurses, medical technologists, and teachers.
“Ilonggo job applicants can choose among the 15,000 domestic and overseas jobs which are available in the job fair. We have jobs for domestic helpers, frontliners such as nurses, medical technologists, and mga teachers may opening man sa other countries,” he added.
According to Umadhay, the Summerfest Job Fair is the first face-to-face job fair organized by the Iloilo City government since the pandemic.
“This is the first face-to-face job fair nga aton napatigayon since the pandemic. Before this, ginahiwat naton ang aton job fair virtually,” he added.
Due to the restrictions and lockdowns imposed during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Umadhay said they resorted to virtual job fairs to help Ilonggo job seekers.
The online job fairs organized by the city government were also successful as it expanded the reach of the event.
However, Umadhay lamented that the online job fair was disadvantageous to some Ilonggo job seekers who are not tech savvy. Hence, he underscored the need to hold face-to-face job fairs to cater non-tech savvy job hunters.
“The virtual job fair magnified the potential of Iloilo City in terms of economic activities. In fact, PESO was awarded as best implementor in 2021, pero indi kita magsettle kay may iban pa gid nga Ilonggos nga indi gid technological savy that’s why ginaoffer ta subong ang face-to-face job fair because we want to be inclusive and gusto naton mareach ang tanan-tanan nga gusto magpangita snag obra diri sa city,” he said.
The job fair will start from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
PESO advised applicants to bring at least two copies of their resumes. For overseas employment, minimum requirements include passport and resumes. (DG)
