The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 6 through its Negros Occidental Field Office, provided a total of Php17,122,500 in assistance to 3, 805 marginalized residents of the 6th Congressional District of Negros Occidental.
Each beneficiary received a Php4,500 wages for a 10-day community service which has concluded recently.
TUPAD or the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Disadvantage/Displaced Workers Program has been the forefront of providing emergency employment assistance to marginalized Filipinos. The one-time financial assistance for the community work they render help them recover from livelihood loses or displacements due to natural calamity or economic blow.
The implementation of TUPAD in the municipalities of Candoni, Hinobaan, Ilog and Kabankalan, and the cities of Cauayan and Sipalay, popularly known as CHICKS area among the Negrenses, has definitely made a significant impact to the lives of the informal workers and their families.
The delivery of the substantial amount of assistance across the province’s southern local government units demonstrated DOLEs commitment in assisting those in need and helping them recover from the economic challenges.
DOLE-6 Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. lauded the efforts of the partners in delivering the services to the marginalized workers.
“The success of the TUPAD Program can be attributed to the collaboration and dedication of the local government units and all the partners involved. The provision of a temporary employment to the beneficiaries has created impact to their daily needs and helped alleviate their financial difficulties,” he said.
Atty. Rodriguez stressed that the dedication to the program is a testament to the commitment of everyone involved in making a difference to the lives of Filipinos in need.
