P152,048 worth of ‘shabu’ seized

BACOLOD City – Eight persons were arrested after P152,048 worth of suspected shabu were seized from their possession during a five-day drug haul here and in Negros Occidental from July 13 to 17, 2021.

Of the amount, P137,360 worth of suspected shabu was confiscated here, while P14,688 worth of suspected shabu was seized in the province.

The buy-bust operations here were conducted at Barangays Vista Alegre, 19, and Taculing which led to the arrest of five persons.

The operations were led by Police Stations 6 and 7, and the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU).

In Negros Occidental, three persons, including two minors aged 16 were arrested in Silay City, while another man was arrested in the neighboring town of E.B. Magalona.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) intercepted a truck loaded with undocumented lumber at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) port here last Friday.

According to Captain Ludovico Librilla Jr., deputy commander of Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV), the lumber came from Kabankalan City and was supposed to be transported to Iloilo City via a roll-on roll-off (Roro) vessel.

The 9,000 board feet of lumber (Gmelina) was valued at P300,000.

Librilla said the lumber was not covered by valid permits upon their inspection.

Librilla said the truck driver and the supplier, as well as the client and others involved in the transaction will be called by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for a hearing soon.
