P2.4M in properties lost to Calatrava village market fire

BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is investigating the cause of a fire that gutted the Marcelo public market at Sitio Riverside, Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Saturday night.

Based on the report of the BFP, the fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. in an upland barangay.

It was raised to second alarm, as the fire grew bigger because the structure was made of light materials.

Fire Officer 3 Ma. Krisna Hugo, ground commander of Calatrava Municipal Fire Station during the fire scene, said that the blaze left an estimated P2.4 million worth of damage covering a land area of about 200 square meters.

Firefighters from neighboring areas of Sagay and San Carlos cities, and Toboso town augmented during the firefighting operation.

No injuries were reported, according to Hugo. The BFP declared “fire out” around 9:40 p.m.
