BACOLOD City – Mayor Rhumyla Nicor Mangilimutan of La Castellana, Negros Occidental led the groundbreaking of a P4-million road project at Barangay Puso on Thursday.
The road project will pave the way for tourism and give easier mobility to the residents.
At least 65 percent of the road in the said barangay has been paved, Mangilimutan said.
The mayor said roads are vital in developing the tourism potentials of the place such as the Calangag Falls and an underground river like the one in Palawan.
She said the road project can hasten travel time during emergencies.
The road project was realized through the Aid to Municipalities program of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
The mayor said she makes it a point to visit the area as much as possible.
In 2013, a truckload of policemen along with village peacekeepers and civilians was ambushed by New People’s Army rebels, resulting in the death of 9 and wounding of 9 others.
