P500,000 lost in Roxas City fire

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Around P500,000 worth of properties went up in smoke after a fire hit a warehouse at New Road Banica, Roxas City Friday night.

According to Fire Senior Insp. Michael Lopez, acting city fire marshal of Roxas City Fire Station, the fire erupted around 6:15 pm at the warehouse of Llanas Marketing owned by couples Steve and Christy Chua.

Firefighters had a hard time entering the bodega as the door was padlocked. It took 6 hours before the fire was extinguished around 12:38 am.

Nine firetrucks from the Roxas City Fire Station and Panay, Panitan and Ivisan Fire Stations, and volunteers from Ferocity and CACAG responded to the fire incident. No one was hurt.

Lopez said that they could not yet ascertain the cause of fire as investigation is ongoing. He reminded the public to ensure that all electrical connections should be unplugged before leaving their place.

It was learned that the bodega was filled with plastic and electrical wares, school and office supplies, among others.

Meanwhile, around P180,000 worth of property was also gutted by a fire that hit a house at Sapian Ville Phase 2 in Brgy. Bilao in Sapian, Capiz Friday afternoon.

The house owned by 58-year-old Elizabeth Dotero was partially burned, according to Fire Officer 2 Tomas Tomagan, arson investigator of Sapian Fire Station.

Investigation indicated that the fire originated from a room of the house that was made of mostly light materials.

No one was inside the house when the incident happened.
