Key officials took part in the groundbreaking for a P75 million multipurpose building in Barangay Benedicto, Jaro, Iloilo City on March 6.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and Uswag Ilonggo Partylist Representative James “Jojo” Ang Jr. led the ceremony for the P75-million multipurpose building, which will soon be established in Barangay Benedicto, Jaro, Iloilo City.
Ang said the three-story edifice will accommodate several offices for the city government and Barangay Benedicto.
“Mayor Treñas and I have been discussing this project since last year, exploring ways to secure funding for a project in Jaro. Hence, this center will act as a command hub, not only for the barangay but also for various departments and agencies, all aimed at better serving our community. This is just one of our many projects for the city,” Ang said during his speech.
Mayor Treñas expressed his appreciation to the congressman for his assistance in obtaining the funds necessary for the building’s construction.
He emphasized the significance of the project, particularly following the dismantling of the Jaro gymnasium, which resulted in the displacement of multiple government offices.
“This project will fulfill the demand for office space and will also contribute significantly to the community’s overall progress,” Mayor Treñas said.
The building will host the Barangay Benedicto hall, facilities for blind masseurs, a police assistance desk, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and other crucial services.
By centralizing these services, the goal is to simplify administrative operations and enhance the delivery of services to citizens.
Barangay Benedicto Chairman Abelardo Salting Jr. expressed gratitude to the officials for their support, noting the important impact the multipurpose building will have on both the Jaro district and the city at large.
The event was also attended by Raisa Treñas-Chu, Iloilo City Councilor Dr. Nick Baronda, representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6), and other Barangay Benedicto officials.
