BACOLOD City – A curfew violator was arrested after he allegedly yielded illegal drugs when he evaded a checkpoint in Barangay 12 here last Thursday.
Police identified the suspect as Aris Mapa, 23.
Police Major Ramel Sarona, head of Police Station 1, said that Mapa did not stop when flagged down by police officers in a checkpoint around 2:05 a.m. Instead, Mapa fled prompting the authorities to chase him.
Mapa was cornered by police when he fell from his motorcycle, Sarona said.
Police recovered from him P27,200 worth of suspected shabu, suspected dried marijuana leaves, and drug paraphernalia.
Sarona said Mapa told the police that he allegedly bought the contraband in one of the barangays here and was on his way home when he passed by a checkpoint.
Bacolod is currently implementing curfew hours from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Meanwhile, P53,352 worth of suspected shabu was also confiscated here and in Negros Occidental from September 20 to 23.
For Bacolod, buy-bust operations were conducted by Police Stations 3 and 9 in Barangays Bata and Cabug, respectively, which resulted in the arrest of two persons and recovery of P32,612 worth of suspected shabu.
For the province, P20,740 worth of the said contraband was seized from two individuals in separate drug bust operations in the cities of San Carlos and Victorias.
