BACOLOD City – A man died while his son was injured after they were shot by unidentified men in Barangay Balintawak, Escalante City, Negros Occidental last Friday.
Police identified the fatality as Victor Arnaiz, 50, of the said village.
Wounded was his son Joseph Arnaiz, 25, of the said village.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Rocky Desear, city police chief, said that prior to the shooting, Joseph reportedly figured in an altercation with a man at the resort.
“Nagsuntukan sila,” he added.
The man’s group then allegedly threw something at Joseph’s car, causing another altercation and commotion, Desear said.
The two groups ended up in a police station because of the commotion.
However, after the commotion was settled, later that night, the shooting incident occurred.
When they went home, two unidentified men on a motorcycle arrived while Joseph and his friends were having a drinking session.
When Joseph checked, he was shot hitting his left arm, while his father who went outside to rescue him was shot in the head which caused his immediate death.
Joseph was transferred to a hospital here and is now out of danger.
Desear said they already have a person of interest in the incident. But, they are still probing if the shooting may be linked to the earlier altercation of Joseph with a man at the resort.
