BACOLOD City – An elderly man and his son were shot and hacked to death by an unidentified man at Purok Mangyong, Sitio Bedio, Barangay Codcod, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

Killed were Pedro Engada, 60; and his son Jimboy Engada, 30.

Police Major Mark Angelo Junco, city police chief, said the victims were allegedly involved in a hacking incident at the said village, injuring 41-year-old Godofredo Lano, before the shooting happened.

A heated argument triggered the incident when Lano pacified the Engadas who were reportedly drunk, the police chief added.

Lano managed to escape from them, and alleged that he heard gunshots, Junco said.

Lano sustained multiple hack wounds and was brought to a hospital.

The two victims succumbed to multiple gunshot, stab, and hack wounds when found at the said area after the hacking incident.

Junco said it is possible that the victims were killed by more than two persons based on their injuries.

He said they cannot yet tell if the victims’ killings were related to a previous hacking incident that day, adding that residents in the area would always complain about their drunken behavior.

He said the victims’ family already refused to file charges against the perpetrator.
