ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A section of the Panay River control on Lapu-Lapu Street in Barangay 3 collapsed Wednesday afternoon, June 11, damaging part of the city government’s esplanade project.

Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas immediately visited the site after receiving the report and ordered the area cordoned off to ensure public safety.

An initial investigation by the City Engineer’s Office found that approximately 30 meters of the river control were damaged.

Dadivas also requested the Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) to disconnect electricity for street lights and the Metro Roxas Water District (MRWD) to shut off the damaged water line in the area.

The mayor said he will call a meeting with Engr. Cecil Lawrence Cruz, district engineer of the Capiz 1st Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), to discuss possible solutions for the failed river control, which was built in the 1980s.
