ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The parricide case filed on Tuesday against a man who hacked dead his 87-year-old father Sunday afternoon at Sitio Proper, Brgy. Damayan Sapian, Capiz has been withdrawn.
But Michael Olano, 53, was taken to the mental health unit in Pototan, Iloilo for treatment.
Michael allegedly killed his father Manuel, 87, who succumbed to fatal hack injuries on his neck and other parts of his body.
According to Sanita Olano, it was decided by the family not to sue her brother-in-law Michael and instead decided to take him to the mental hospital for treatment.
She said the neighbors were worried for their safety every time Michael roams around.
The Olanos are both residents of barangay Damayan.
An investigation by Police Staff Sergeant Louie Banate of Sapian Municipal Police Station indicated that Michael went inside Manuel’s house and without any provocation, hacked the latter with a bolo.
Manuel was taken to Mambusao District Hospital but died a few hours later.
Michael fled after committing the crime but he was arrested in a hot pursuit operation by the police.
According to Sanita, her brother-in-law failed to take his maintenance medicines for depression.
She said the suspect was admitted to the mental hospital in Pototan, Iloilo for treatment and was released in 2017.
