A paved road built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) improves connectivity between the remote barangays of Pungsod and Buayahon in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said the paved road provides residents with easier access to social, health, economic, and other government services.
“This concrete road facilitates better access even to remote areas in central Iloilo, enhancing the mobility of people and the delivery of goods and basic services,” Oropel said.
The road traverses rice fields and other agricultural lands, making it especially beneficial to rice and vegetable farmers, as well as animal raisers, Oropel added.
“This road will help farmers transport their products faster and more cost-effectively, which could improve their economic condition,” Oropel emphasized.
The DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office undertook the ₱4.89-million project, funded under the FY 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
The project involved the construction of a 408-lineal meter, two-lane Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) road, and the installation of a Reinforced Concrete Pipe Culvert (RCPC).
District Engineer Mario G. Soriano said the new road significantly contributes to local economic growth by providing easy access to basic services and economic opportunities.
“With this road, government services can now reach remote areas, and residents can more easily access educational, social, and health facilities in Sta. Barbara and nearby Iloilo City,” Soriano said.
The DPWH continues to implement road projects to connect rural communities to main thoroughfares, ensuring faster transportation and easier access to essential services. (DPWH)
