Residents of Barangay Tibiao in Calinog, Iloilo now have better access to essential services and opportunities for economic growth with the newly concreted farm-to-market road (FMR).
Undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office, the ₱12-million project involves the construction of a 675-meter long and 5-meter wide Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) road with shouldering on both sides.
Citing a report from District Engineer Allan Rey R. Pajimna, DPWH-6 Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said the new road will guarantee convenience in transporting goods and services of the people to the national highway or to Calinog town proper and vice versa.
“The newly-concreted FMR will improve the mobility of the residents and boost the economy of the barangay by providing farmers with a better road network for faster transportation access of their goods and products to the market,” Director Bueno said.
“This concrete road replaces the existing gravel road which was often impassable during the rainy season, making it difficult for residents to travel to and from the barangay and access essential services such as healthcare, education, and markets,” RD Bueno added.
Meanwhile, District Engineer Allay Rey R. Pajimna said the new concreting project is a step towards the development and progress of the town as the new road will be safer, more durable, and more accessible among locals.
“DPWH will continue to work hand in hand with the community to provide safe, efficient, and convenient road networks that will promote progress and development in Iloilo province,” DE Pajimna said. (DPWH-6)
