After a series of successful COVID-19 testing in the PBA bubble, commissioner Willie Marcial confirmed that a single person turned out to be positive.
Marcial said that the first positive case in their bubble in Clark, Pampanga is a referee who is asymptomatic.
Immediately after the results came out, the PBA management isolated the referee and extracted him out of the bubble.
The referee is set to undergo another round of swab-testing in a quarantine facility located at Capas, Tarlac and if the results will turn out to be negative, commissioner Marcial and the board will discuss if he can still return to the bubble and serve his job until the end of the season.
Out of all the referees, the PBA personnel, staff, and the players in all the participating 12 teams, it was only the referee who got the virus and the league is still puzzled as to how he got infected.
The PBA has ordered tight restrictions and limited movements after the positive case result and will be monitoring everybody to make sure they are following the health protocols set by the league.
