The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) recently announced that they will be lending a helping hand to the victims of Typhoon Kristine.
According to Vice Chairman Alfrancis Chua, the proceeds of the Game 1 tickets for the upcoming Governor’s Cup Finals between the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the TNT Tropang Giga will be directly sent to Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc., which will supervise the donation to the victims.
The collective decision of the PBA board was confirmed during their official PBA Finals press conference on October 24, 2024, at The Atrium, Enderun Colleges in Taguig.
Chua added that Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc. will be responsible for breaking down the PBA’s help through a broadcast report, including the monetary liquidation.
“If you can see kung anong nangyayari sa bansa natin, mga kapatid natin na nasalanta, so nag-usap kami ni Commissioner, ni Chairman: We decided yung Sunday’s game, yung proceeds nun, lahat ido-donate namin,” Chua said.
Typhoon Kristine made its landfall in Isabela yesterday and also wreaked havoc in several cities and provinces, including Bicol.
As of now, Typhoon Kristine’s death toll increased to 26 and is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) today.
However, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) confirmed that it might return to the country on October 28, 2024.
Game 1 between the Gin Kings and the Tropang Giga will be played on October 27, 2024, but the PBA is yet to confirm whether they will push through with the original schedule or move the clash to later next week.
