BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Negros Occidental has reached out to some residents in coastal areas to provide some basic goods through their mobile community pantry amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Dubbed “Binuligay sa Higad sang Baybay,” Coast Guard personnel led by Captain Ludovico Librilla Jr., visited Barangay Tiglawigan in Cadiz City to extend their pantry to the coastal residents.

It was initiated by the Coast Guard Sub Station in Cadiz in cooperation with the barangay officials.

The PCG team then conducted a dialogue about the plans of establishing a PCG Clearing Outpost (COP) to monitor the movement of fishing vessels calling in the said area.

The local PCG has earlier launched its “Bayanihan sa Pantalan,” inspired by the conmunity pantry idea, which was set-up at their compound in Barangay Banago since Monday.

The PCG pantry provides water, biscuits and vegetables that is open to passing passengers and truck drivers from Banago Port bound to Port of Dumangas, Iloilo.

Librilla said it aims to provide the basic needs of the riding passengers and also help to people in the community to sustain their daily needs despite the pandemic.

They also accept donations from individuals and various sectors.
