BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Western Visayas received a six-hectare land donated by the city government of Escalante in Negros Occidental for the establishment of future infrastructures in the city.
This, after Commodore Hostillo Arturo Cornelio, PCG District Western Visayas commander; and Mayor Melecio Yap Jr. signed a Deed of Donation on Wednesday, at Marino Del Norte Resort in Barangay Alimango, in the presence of PCG personnel from Negros Occidental and Bacolod City.
Yap noted the importance of PCG in guarding the waters and three of its ports considering it is the gateway to Cebu Island, where maritime risk, security issue and traffic are high.
The given land will strengthen the presence of PCG in the area even more, the mayor said.
For his part, Cornelio thanked the local government unit (LGU) for the said donation.
Cornelio said the acquisition of the land in Barangay Alimango was timely and a milestone development as it will be used as a training center and will be utilized for other infrastructures.
In August this year, PCG personnel and LGU representatives conducted inspection and surveyed another area for a possible establishment of a radar station in Barangay Langub, which they considered as an ideal place for the PCG in northern Negros as it could also utilize PCG floating assets during unfavorable or bad weather conditions.
