BACOLOD City – A cargo box containing about 100 grams of suspected shabu worth P680,000 from Manila was intercepted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Negros Occidental Saturday.
PDEA-Negros Occidental head Nicolas Gomez, said the illegal drugs was sealed in a tin can wrapped with carbon paper and mixed with some grocery items in a box.
“Hindi mo talaga malalaman na may contraband doon kasi naitago talaga siya kasama ng ibang food packs,” Gomez said.
Gomez said the contraband was discovered when a narcotic detection dog detected the item during a random paneling or inspection of cargoes inside a warehouse around 7:20 a.m.
It would have been delivered to Bacolod, he added.
Gomez said the K-9 dog sat on the cargo, indicating the presence of suspicious item.
He said they already have persons of interest, but he refused to reveal the identities of the consignee and the receiver while investigation is ongoing.
Gomez said they are more cautious with cargoes arriving in the province.
He said PDEA continues to intensify its campaign against the entry of illegal drugs in the province through series of inspections in seaports and airport here.
The recovered items will be submitted for a laboratory examination in Iloilo.
