Pedestrian killed in road mishap after getting hit by delivery truck

A construction worker was killed after being run over by a delivery truck at Barangay Cabubugan, Guimbal, Iloilo afternoon of September 27.

Crisanto Soberano, a resident of Veterans Village, City Proper, Iloilo City succumbed to fatal wounds on his head and body.

He was rushed to Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial Hospital in Guimbal town but was declared dead on arrival.

Truck driver Ricardo Sumagaysay, Jr., 58, a resident of Barangay Damires, New Lucena, Iloilo, was immediately arrested.

According to reports, Soberano was a construction worker of a residential building project in the area.

He was crossing the four-lane road when he got hit by the delivery truck.

Sumagaysay, on the other hand, came from San Joaquin town and was on his way to Iloilo City when the incident happened.

Lieutenant Larry John Vidal, Guimbal police chief, said the victim was looking at the lane opposite the truck as he crossed the road.

Footage from a closed-circuit television showed that that the truck was speeding but tried to avoid Soberano.

However, the victim went to the side where the truck was also veering to.

Sumagaysay is now detained and might be charged for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
