PENRO Capiz Turns Over Water Systems to Communities

Brgy. Dolores, Dumalag, Capiz

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Capiz, led by OIC-PENR Officer Ernest C. Federiso, turned over two small water impounding systems (SWIS) on November 22, 2024. Each system has a capacity of 20 cubic meters.

National Greening Program (NGP) Provincial Coordinator Forester Marlyn Caraggayan and PENRO personnel participated in the turnover.

The Dolores Integrated Social Forestry Association (DISFA) in Barangay Dolores, Dumalag, Capiz, received the first SWIS tank. The tank, constructed earlier this year, is located within an 80-hectare bamboo plantation established in 2015 through the Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB) Project. It is also near an 81-hectare NGP plantation created in 2012, both contracted to the local government unit of Dumalag.

The second SWIS tank was turned over to Barangay Aglinab, Tapaz, Capiz. This tank is within a 227-hectare bamboo plantation developed under the 2020 NGP project, contracted to the Tapaz local government unit.

Both SWIS projects, funded at PHP 876,004.09 each, were constructed by Giantwest Construction Corporation.

The SWIS tanks aim to enhance water conservation and support agricultural activities, especially during dry spells.

Local farmers are expected to benefit significantly, as the systems will provide a consistent water supply for NGP plantations and reforestation projects. These efforts contribute to improved agricultural productivity and food security in the region. (DENR)
