To raise environmental awareness, foster greater appreciation, and encourage stronger commitment to environmental protection, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Nueva Valencia celebrated Linggo ng Kabataan and International Youth Day through a Youth Eco-Adventure Activity at JBLFMU Ecopark in Poblacion, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, on August 12, 2024.

The event was a collaboration led by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Nueva Valencia, headed by Mayor Paul Vincent dela Cruz, in partnership with DENR-PENRO Guimaras, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, and Guimaras Environment and Natural Resources Office (GENRO).

More than 40 participants, including SK chairpersons and council members from barangays across the municipality, took part.

The one-day event featured interactive activities at five stations: (1) Public Speaking, (2) Mangrove Tiktok Dance Challenge, (3) Role-Playing Coral and Seagrass Communities, (4) Lessons on Sustainable Living, and (5) an MPA briefing for Nueva Valencia.

These activities aimed to enhance the leadership and communication skills of the young leaders while educating them on coastal and marine environment essentials.

The event concluded with participants sharing insights.

Many expressed that the activity was an excellent venue to expand their environmental knowledge and encouraged everyone to apply the lessons learned in their daily lives. (DENR-6)
