Team Sulong Gugma, led by Iloilo City Lone District Rep. Julienne “JamJam” Baronda, officially launched its 2025 local campaign on March 28 by engaging directly with communities instead of holding a grand rally.
Baronda, joined by former Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, vice mayoral candidate Lady Julie Grace “Love-Love” Baronda, and the team’s 10-member city council slate, began the day with a Mass at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Sto. Niño de Arevalo before visiting coastal barangays.
“We at Team Sulong Gugma chose to hold our kickoff rally in the barangays because we want to be with ordinary Ilonggos—not the wealthy, the powerful, or those who already have many privileges, but the people who truly understand the struggles and hopes of our community,” said Mabilog, who also serves as the team’s campaign manager.
“We must uplift those in need, those who deserve support. Most importantly, we must be generous,” he added.
The team premiered an advocacy video reaffirming its commitment to working alongside ordinary Ilonggos to improve their living conditions.
They also pledged to champion social and economic reforms under the banner of Good Urban Governance and Meaningful Advocacies (GUGMA).
Speaking before an estimated 2,000 supporters in Barangay Sto. Niño Norte, Arevalo, Baronda expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, especially after facing political challenges.
“Today, I am overjoyed to see you all. You inspired me to be the best version of myself. After more than a year of being abandoned [by my political ally], I have survived,” Baronda said.
“I am truly blessed that the people recognize my dedication and service since 2019. I have given my all, and your support is a testament to that.”
She emphasized the importance of inclusive, bottom-up governance and pledged to remain accessible to those in need.
“You have shown that, despite the influence of wealth, true power lies with the people,” she said.
“It is time to return that power to you.”
“Enough of corruption and debt—we want a future where the underprivileged have opportunities, and those who are sick can seek medical care without fear because free healthcare services are available.”
“Team Sulong Gugma has a clear vision and platform to uplift Ilonggos from hardship.”
Supporters from various sectors expressed confidence in Baronda and her team, citing past projects and programs as proof of their track record.
“We support Team Sulong Gugma because Cong. JamJam has brought many projects to the city,” one supporter told Daily Guardian.
“She has helped the poor, and if they win, we hope they continue to address the needs of the most vulnerable.”
A 60-year-old resident of Simon Ledesma expressed concern over rising living costs and taxes, including real property tax rates and waste collection fees.
“I support Team Sulong Gugma because I believe in their advocacy,” he said.
“Cong. Baronda has implemented programs across all barangays, and they have been beneficial.”
“If they win, I hope they address the rising cost of living and increasing real property tax, which greatly impact low-income families.”
