The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Professional Teachers released the results of the September 2024 Licensure Examinations for Professional Teachers (LEPT), conducted in 40 testing centers across the Philippines and Thailand.

Of the 44,002 examinees for the elementary level, 20,025 passed, yielding a passing rate of 45.5%. This is lower than the 46.7% passing average recorded in the March 2024 LEPT. West Visayas State University (WVSU) ranked first among schools with 100 or more examinees, achieving at least an 85% passing rate. Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, placed sixth among schools with 50-99 examinees, achieving at least a 90% passing rate.

Among the successful examinees, 16,340 were first timers, while 3,685 were repeaters. First timers had a passing rate of 74.95%, while repeaters achieved a 17% passing rate. This impacted the overall performance of the September 2024 LEPT – Elementary.

At the regional level, 47 out of 69 higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Western Visayas Region, or 68%, performed better than the national average. Most of these high-performing schools were state universities and colleges (SUCs). Other high-performing schools in the region with 50 or more examinees and at least an 80% passing rate included the University of Iloilo (87.72%). A total of 1,174 out of 1,836 examinees from the region passed the examination.

Four schools in Western Visayas had board passers included in the list of examinees who garnered the top 10 places nationwide. These schools were West Visayas State University (one at Rank 6, one at Rank 9, and two at Rank 10), Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (one at Rank 7), Philippine Normal University – Visayas (one at Rank 8), and Central Philippine University (one at Rank 9). Central Philippine University, the only private higher education institution (PHEI) on the list, is a CHED autonomous school in Western Visayas.

In the secondary level, 48,875 out of 85,909 examinees passed, resulting in a 56.89% passing rate. Of these, 41,190 were first timers with a passing rate of 77.34%, while 7,685 were repeaters with a passing rate of 24%.

West Visayas State University ranked second among schools with 100-299 examinees, achieving a 96.77% passing rate. West Visayas State University – Himamaylan Campus (WVSU-Himamaylan) ranked tenth, with a 90% passing rate.

At the regional level, 46 out of 90 schools in the Western Visayas Region, or 51%, had a passing average above the national level. Of the 4,041 examinees in the region, 2,575, or 63.72%, passed the exam. Other high-performing schools in the region with 50 or more examinees and at least an 80% passing rate included the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos (88.46%), Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) – Ajuy Campus (86.08%), University of St. La Salle (85.71%), and Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) – Main Campus (80%). The University of St. La Salle is a CHED autonomous school in Western Visayas, while the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos is a CHED deregulated school. West Visayas State University had two board passers, both at Rank 8, included in the national top 10.

Finally, the September 2024 LEPT results highlighted the strong performance of the Western Visayas Region in both the elementary and secondary levels. The region’s passing rates for both levels exceeded the national averages.
