Philippines Football League (PFL) commissioner Coco Torre revealed that there are additional clubs that want to participate in the upcoming season.
Three teams are already finalizing their requirements to join the PFL and are hopeful to see action as debut squads anytime this year.
However, Torre and the rest of the PFL had to scrap the initial planned season and time frame after another COVID-19 spike happened in the country.
The PFL said that it’s all up to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases if they will allow the resumption of professional football amid the rising cases of the pandemic.
PFL commissioner Torre also said that it is still difficult to estimate the dates for the return of the league due to added external constraints but expansion considerations will never be left out of the conversation.
“We are delighted that our expansion plan which is part of our mid-long term plan is taking in effect. However, the emotions are mixed since we still cannot play because of this pandemic. Nonetheless, it is great to know that our league is continuing to grow despite the situation,” closed Torre.
As of this time, two PFL clubs, the Kaya FC-Iloilo and the United City FC, formerly Ceres-Negros, are wrapping up their preparations for the nearing AFC Cup 2021.
