The Philippine Women’s National Football team closed out its 2022 with a spectacular victory over Papua New Guinea, 9-0, in another friendly match last December 15, 2022, held at the Wanderers Football Park in Sydney.
Already ramping up its preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Filipina booters are in the last phase of this year’s intensive training camp.
Also, a part of their FIFA World Cup preparation are several international friendly matches including their match against Papua New Guinea.
It was one of those flawless performances from the PHL national team after executing their sets to perfection against the loose New Papua Guinea defense.
Sara Eggesvik kicked off the Filipinas’ scoring surge after finding the back of the net in the 10th minute made possible by a well-calculated assist from Katrina Guillou.
13 minutes after the Eggesvik first blood, Guillou turned from a passer to a scorer after firing past Papua New Guinea’s goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead.
It was all PHL in the match as they also displayed terrific communication in the defensive end and tallied several clean tackles that prevented the opposition from generating their offense.
Jessika Cowart opened the second half with a bang for the Filipinas after scoring one minute after the whistle. Tahnai Annis then joined the goal party after recording PHL’s fourth goal of the match in the 53rd minute.
Quinley Quezada, the Filipinas’ star striker, put on a show in the next 30 minutes and sealed the deal for the national team after scoring an impressive hat-trick.
The superb offensive player scored in the 65th, 85th, and 87th minute to close the national team’s show in a convincing fashion.
