The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has announced the winners of the National On-The-Spot Letter Writing Competition for Young People to represent the winning entry in the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Contest to be held in Berne, Switzerland.
The contest aims to promote literacy and better understanding around the world through the post office.
Twenty Seven (27) students from nine (9) Postal Areas who won in the Salamat Po (Thank you Teacher) Regional On-The-Spot Letter Writing Competition was invited to participate in the National Competition held at the GSIS-Museo ng Sining in Manila.
The winning letter of Mr. Kylde Charles Lee Painor, a student of Honorato C. Perez, Sr. Memorial Science High School, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, Area 1-NorthEast Luzon won the grand prize and will represent the country in the International competition.
Aside from Kylde, Ms. Johanna Mae S. Dacuba, of Agban National High School, Agban, Baras, Catanduanes of Area 4-Southern Luzon won second prize and Daniela Katrina Pauline D. Purisima of Colegio de Santo Tomas Recoletos, Inc., San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. Area 6-Western Visayas, third prize.
The contest is a yearly event organized by PHLPost under the auspices of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations which is composed of 192 countries around the world. The chosen theme for this year is: “Write a letter about your hero”.
Entries were adjudged according to the international criteria set by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) by the panel of judges led by Atty. Nicolas Pichay, a Palanca Awardee (Chairman), Ricardo Ador Dionisio, Senior Education Program Specialist, Bureau of Curriculum Devt, Curriculum Standard Devt Division, Major Maria Lourdes E. Ranario, PA- Co-author Marawi and Beyond, Ms. Nedia E. Lagustan, DepEd Region IV-A, Principal II and Ms. Anna Marlaine V. Litonjua, Senior Education Program Specialist, DepEd Central Office.
