One of the most dynamic imports to don the Phoenix Super LPG uniform will be returning to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) for the upcoming 2023 Governor’s Cup.
Welcome home, Du’Vaughn Maxwell.
It was Phoenix head coach Topex Robinson who confirmed their latest move as part of their preparation for the import-laced conference set to kick off this January 22, 2023.
Maxwell was Phoenix’s latest replacement last Governor’s Cup when primary import Paul Harris went down with a knee injury and failed to finish his campaign with the Super LPG.
Before Maxwell was called up, it was Dominique Sutton who became Phoenix’s initial replacement but his 1-3 record with the Super LPG forced the management to have some last resorts to salvage the conference.
The versatile former hooper from Hampton adjusted quickly with the team in his four-game stint and helped them reach the playoffs after averaging 27.5 points, 13.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
Phoenix was on the verge of getting eliminated in the race for the final spot heading into the playoffs after recording a 4-5 win-loss record.
When Maxwell came in, the high-flying freak of nature helped improve their record to 7-6 and put up one of the most impressive runs during that Governor’s Cup.
However, Maxwell’s heroics weren’t enough after the stacked Magnolia Chicken Timplados squad decimated them in the first round of the post-season.
“As we said early this year, Du’Vaughn was the right fit for us. It was our priority to bring him back and start the conference with him,” said Robinson.
