The PHP19-million rehabilitation of the Plaza Libertad in City Proper district is underway after its groundbreaking last Thursday.
The project is based on the conceptual plan of renowned Architect Paulo Alcazaren who also designed the famous Iloilo Esplanade.
The initial preparation for the rehabilitation of Plaza Libertad, which included the cutting of several trees and the transfer of plants, started last year.
Phase 1 of the project will include the construction of pathways, drainage system, assembly area fronting the Iloilo City Hall, and the installation of the lighting system.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the project is part of his agenda to bring the city to the next level by building more infrastructure projects for the community.
“With our desire to bring Iloilo City to the next level, we maximize our potential to create a better environment for our people and plan to develop open spaces, building infrastructure projects that will benefit our community,” he said.
Aside from Plaza Libertad, the mayor said other plazas in the metro will also undergo rehabilitation as part of his priority projects.
The 400-million legislative building and the multi-level parking building which link the city government offices will also rise across the Iloilo City Hall. (ERS)
