BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) director, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros said their forces in the province are on alert for possible attacks by the New People’s Army (NPA) when it celebrates its founding anniversary this month.
Baleros said the PNP is also finalizing security plans for the upcoming holiday season beginning December 15, the first day of the 9-day morning mass or “Simbang Gabi.”
Baleros said the entire police force is on “red alert” status and he ordered police chiefs in cities and municipalities to enhance their anti-crime patrols, especially in crowded areas.
Police chiefs were also ordered to coordinate with force multipliers and advised them to help in road traffic administration. The police were also instructed to assist motorists in case of mechanical troubles or accidents.
Baleros said police chiefs should adopt a tight defensive posture, be more vigilant, and coordinate with other friendly forces.
“Yes we are always expecting for enemy assaults because of the series of encounters in Himamaylan and Isabela, plus the arrest of NPA supporters in Bacolod City last month,” he said.
Under the “red alert” status, Baleros said all leaves are canceled and police personnel are required to report to their respective stations.
