Police have yet to identify the man who was found dead late afternoon of October 10, 2021 in Calinog, Iloilo.
While he remains unknown, investigators are certain that there was foul play in the victim’s death.
Captain Dadje Delima, Calinog police chief, said the post-mortem examination conducted by Dr. Joe Martin Fuentes, medico-legal officer of the Regional Crime Laboratory Office 6, indicated that the man died of traumatic head injury inflicted using a blunt object. His toes and fingers were also mutilated.
Delima said they’re not discounting the possibility that the body was intentionally left in the area where it would take some time to be discovered.
It can be noted that Barangay Captain Juanita Castro of Tahing, Calinog reported that a resident discovered the body around 4 p.m. Sunday in a secluded and forested area of the village.
The nearest habituated area was around 200 meters from where the cadaver was found.
The man was estimated to be around 40 to 50 years old, around 5 foot 6 inches tall, and was wearing a pair of denim pants and an off-white Columbia jacket.
No other identification was found on the body or the immediate vicinity where he was found.
The body was also in the advance state of decomposition and his facial features were no longer recognizable.
Delima said he could have been dead for around a week already before he was found.
The body was discovered after residents passing by the area complained of foul odor for three days already.
But none of them checked the forested portion until Sunday.
Delima said the local police has no record of any missing person in the past several days.
They have already asked nearby stations for reports of any reported missing person.
But as of this writing, there was no feedback.
