BACOLOD City – Captain Leo Estopa, head of Police Station 2 here, said they have an isolation facility that can accommodate new detainees to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Estopa said the facility was constructed two weeks ago, and has been used for three days now following the recent arrest of eight individuals.
With the said facility, Estopa said they can minimize the risk for infection of other detainees at the custodial facility.
“Wala ta kabalo sa bag-o nga preso, may possible carrier ka virus, so gina isolate ta sila anay,” he added.
Estopa said detainees undergo a swab test if they’re scheduled for transfer to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Estopa said the facility was materialized through the initiative of the station with the support of their partner barangays and other stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, public information officer of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said that Police Station 2 is the first station to have such facility.
Pico said the BCPO also has an isolation facility at the headquarters for policemen, who might be infected by COVID-19.
