BACOLOD CITY – Several chickens perished in a fire that destroyed a poultry farm at Purok Mabuhay, Barangay Sagasa, Bago City, Negros Occidental, last Monday.
Senior Fire Officer 2 (SFO2) Giovanni Saudi, caretaker of Bago City Fire Station, said they received a fire call around 3:30 a.m.
Saudi noted difficulty entering the area due to road problems, but fire out was declared at 3:42 a.m.
Saudi described the structure as a storage-type occupancy, based on the fire code. It was made of light materials, so the fire completely destroyed the structure, he added.
Saudi confirmed no casualties were reported. The blaze caused an estimated P850,000 worth of damage.
There were reports that unidentified armed persons allegedly burned the farm, threatened employees, and took cash.
However, Saudi emphasized that these are all allegations. He added that their investigation is ongoing.
Saudi mentioned they have submitted evidence to the fire laboratory in Manila to determine the fire’s cause. “We are looking at all angles,” he added.
He said they would base their investigation on the findings. “We do not want to preempt or jump to conclusions,” he added.
