PRO-6 calls for vigilance amid Sulu bombing

The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) called for vigilance following the twin bombing incidents in Jolo, Sulu on Monday.

But Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, quickly dispelled insinuations that the region might be under threat.

Malong said that the whole of Western a Visayas is currently under Terrorism Threat Level 1.

“This means that we have not monitored threats in the entire region,” she said.

Still, it doesn’t hurt to be vigilant and prepared for any eventuality.

“We can do more to reduce the chance of a terrorist attack in our neighborhood,” she said.

In order to help the police avert terroristic activities, PRO-6 has recommended that:

* Everyone must keep an eye for suspicious situations or personalities. One of the best examples is reporting to authorities suspicious unattended baggage and presence of scrupulous individuals;

* Everyone is encouraged to be more vigilant in going to places of convergence such as malls and terminals because these are the usual targets of terrorists;

* When visiting buildings or closed spaces, be reminded to always check on emergency exits; and

* Never leave your belongings unattended.

Malong said that the terrorist groups’ aim is to sow fear among people and gain the attention of the international media by destroying innocent lives and properties.

“The more that we are afraid, the more that they will prevail. So let us work together to prevent terrorist attacks and preserve the peace and order that we enjoy here in Western Visayas,” she said.
