The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has deployed almost a thousand officers to conduct checkpoints in different borders of Western Visayas as the region tries to prevent the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from spreading.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said 932 personnel were tasked to manage 208 border checkpoints in the region.
The Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) deployed 129 personnel; Antique PPO, 144; Bacolod City Police Office, 88; Capiz PPO, 135; Guimaras PPO, 39; Iloilo PPO, 143; Iloilo City PO, 49; Negros Occidental PPO, 120; and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB), 85.
Malong said adjustments would be made based on the prevailing situations.
“That number is on top of our personnel who are on mobile patrols to check on compliance work community quarantine and border restrictions,” she said.
As of Monday, provinces and cities in the region have adopted border restrictions:
- Antique – Community Quarantine and Border Restrictions beginning Mar 17;
- Aklan – Border Restrictions and Community Quarantine beginning Mar 16;
- Capiz – Boundary Restrictions and Community Quarantine beginning Mar 15; and, Home Quarantine for Travellers from MM and other places with Confirmed Covid-19 cases;
- Iloilo province – Border Restrictions and Community Quarantine beginning Mar 16;
- Negros Occidental – Closure of borders, ports, and airports effective immediately until April 14, 2020;
- Roxas City – Border security and Quarantine protocols for Sea Public Transport (Closing all seaports, wharfs and other points of entry of passenger vessels until further notice) and Land Public and Private Transport;
- Iloilo City – Boundary Restrictions sa ports and Community Quarantine beginning Mar 16; and
- Bacolod City – Community quarantine effective immediately.
