Even before the government’s legally procured COVID-19 vaccines could reach the Philippine shores, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 has already mapped out its security preparation in anticipation of the mass vaccination.
In a statement, PRO-6 said it is ready to provide security to Department of Health (DOH) and local government units (LGUs) personnel who would carry out the inoculation.
In a meeting Monday, Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, PRO-6 director, ensured that the police force in Western Visayas is ready once vaccines are available to the public.
“Our units will focus on the orderly distribution of vaccines all over the region,” Miranda said.
Apart from maintenance of peace and order during the actual mass vaccination, PRO-6 will also monitor the movement of the vaccines and other needed equipment in close coordination with the provincial, city and municipal health offices.
“We will be providing convoy and route security from the regional offices or storage facilities to the different storage areas in the cities and municipalities,” he said.
All personnel of PRO-6 with medical background will also be on standby and would be mobilized in COVID-19 activities in case the need arises.
Meanwhile, all units under PRO-6 have submitted their security and contingency plans but the number of personnel to be deployed will be determined once the DOH and the LGU have made their final coordination with the PNP.
“The mass vaccination is important for all of us, so we have to be ready this early,” Miranda said.
