The May 12 national and local elections proceeded peacefully, according to the Police Regional Office 6.
In a statement, PRO-6 said it recorded no major election-related crimes on Election Day across Western Visayas.
PRO-6 Director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky credited the smooth conduct of the polls to the massive deployment of personnel.
He also cited the mobilization of volunteer groups and intensified advocacy campaigns as key to preventing violence and other untoward incidents.
“We saw it coming. Our policemen took proactive security measures and strictly followed the plans in place,” he said.
Wanky noted that even before the election period began on Jan. 12, PRO-6 had already implemented measures to ensure a peaceful, secure and orderly vote.
Its security plan included strategic preparations to deter criminal activity and other threats to the electoral process.
PRO-6 aggressively enforced the Commission on Elections gun ban, monitored the possible use of private armed groups and gathered intelligence to preempt threats to peace and order.
Wanky also emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration and community engagement in the successful implementation of security plans.
He said the Philippine National Police was not alone in the effort.
“We deeply appreciate the support of our stakeholders and the public for making this possible,” he added.
Wanky, however, reiterated that the election period is still ongoing, and security operations remain active.
To protect the integrity of the elections, PRO-6 will continue its deployments until all election materials, including automated counting machines, are safely retrieved and results are fully transmitted.
PRO-6 assured the public that it will remain vigilant and prepared for any post-election security concerns.
