KALIBO, Aklan – In line with the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) commitment to give back to the community, the provincial office in Aklan conducted a distribution of food packs to persons with disabilities on December 23, 2023 at Brgy. Loctuga, one of the remote villages of Libacao.

About 60 differently-abled persons in the said barangay received grocery items courtesy of PSA Aklan and PhilSys staff.

According to Engr. Antonet Catubuan, Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA-Aklan, this activity was held as part of the office’s social responsibility and, in a way, helped sustain the daily needs of those individuals living in impoverished situations.

“We chose PWDs to be given assistance because they need it more than any other sectors in the community considering their conditions,” Engr. Catubuan said.

Meanwhile, Punong Barangay Eldefonso I. Dolinog thanked PSA-Aklan for choosing their barangay as the recipient of this program.

“We thank PSA for their generosity and blessings that they have shared with our constituents, which somehow help provide the food of those families with PWD members,” Dolinog said.

Also present during the program were selected members of the Philippine Army who provided security assistance during the entire duration of the activity.

Aside from the gift-giving, PSA Aklan likewise conducted a forum regarding the national ID as part of the information advocacy campaign of the office to enhance public awareness.

Topics that were discussed during the program include the overview of PhilSys, updates on PhilSys services, such as updating or correcting demographics, replacing defective PhilIDs, and replacing lost or stolen PhilIDs.

Mr. Rene Fernando, PhilSys Focal Person in Aklan, explained the uses and value of e-PhilID and answered questions asked by attendees regarding the issuance of national ID, which further shed light on the topics being discussed.

Furthermore, the team also conducted a registration for those who are not yet enrolled in PhilSys, sparing the residents of this barangay the burden of going to the fixed registration center.

“We are doing this because we want everyone to be registered in PhilSys whatever their conditions in life are and wherever they are residing, as this will facilitate the effective and efficient provision of services of our government,” Mr. Fernando explained.

In appreciation of this program, PB Dolinog bestowed a Certificate of Appreciation to PSA Aklan for the invaluable contribution and generous assistance given to the people in their barangay.
