After several postponements and rescheduling, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Iloilo finally opened the Registration Center for Step 2 PhilSys Registration on February 2, 2021.
The center is located at Iloilo Midtown Hotel, Annex Building, Yulo Street., Iloilo City (former DFA office).
PSA Iloilo headed by Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida C Amolar said the operation started with 4 registration kits only and registered 180 persons a day.
After a week, the team added 2 additional registration kits and aims to register 300 clients daily.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas graced the opening and registered himself on the very same day. This is important as it will encourage every Ilonggo to also register for the National ID system.
Step 2 is the registration process which involves the validation of supporting documents and capturing the registrant’s biometric information such as fingerprints, iris scans, and front-facing photographs at the registration centers.
Step 1 involves the collection of demographic data and scheduling of appointments for Step 2.
Amolar emphasized that only persons with scheduled appointment and underwent Step 1 of the registration process will be accommodated in the center.
This will avoid congestion and to strictly implement health protocols to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
She also added that Registration Step 1 is on-going in some part of the province and in Iloilo City and targets to register 50 to 70 million at the end of the year in the whole country.
