The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) had to cut their national athletes’ salaries, but they said that it will only be temporary.
PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez further explained that their commitment to the national athletes and coaches is that salaries will go back to normal once their collection from PAGCOR will resume.
“Pag bumalik ‘yung pera mula sa PAGCOR, ibabalik din namin ‘yan sa mga atleta. That money is intended for the athletes,” said the PSC chairman.
If the PSC will continue to give the normal salary grade for their national athletes, Ramirez said that they will no longer survive throughout the rest of the year so for cost-cutting measures, he had to implement this.
The country’s top athletes are receiving 45,000 pesos a month and those included in the training pool are receiving 10,000 pesos.
“With no money from PAGCOR, that will be the end of the elite and grassroots program,” Ramirez closed.
