ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The province of Capiz has two confirmed cases of rabies, including one fatality.
Provincial veterinarian Dr. Leonel Abordo confirmed that a 7-year-old boy from Barangay Gabuan, Roxas City died from rabies.
It is believed that the boy got infected by his pet dog.
Last week, another minor from Barangay Culasi, Roxas City was bitten by a dog with rabies, but he was immediately injected with anti-rabies vaccine.
Abordo has appealed to individuals to avoid hugging and kissing pet dogs, especially if they have open wounds.
He said his office is open for those who want to be vaccinated against rabies or request for mass vaccination free of charge.
He advised the public to immediately wash with water and soap body parts bitten by rabid animals and apply betadine as first aid.
Abordo said bite victims should be taken to the nearest Animal Bite Center and the pets to the veterinarian clinic.
