Just days before the May 12 elections, mayoral candidate Raisa Treñas-Chu vowed to continue the legacy of her father, incumbent Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, during the Team Uswag miting de avance held at the La Paz Football Field on May 8.
The event gathered more than 50,000 supporters, according to organizers.
In her speech, Treñas-Chu underscored the importance of electing leaders with integrity and the capability to sustain programs launched under the current administration.
“Some of you may be asking how I intend to continue serving as mayor,” she said.
“But with Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and the entire Team Uswag slate, we will continue the progress of Iloilo City—not just as a model city in the Philippines, but in the whole of Asia.”
She said the city’s progress must be felt in the daily lives of Ilonggo families, highlighting her priorities in health care, education, nutrition and livelihood.
“Every Ilonggo should be proud to live in a city that takes care of them and looks after their well-being,” she added.
If elected, Treñas-Chu would become the first elected female mayor of Iloilo City.
The first woman to serve as mayor was Rosa Olondriz Caram, who was appointed officer-in-charge from April 1986 to November 1987 following the EDSA People Power Revolution.
Caram passed away on May 11, 2019.
Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, along with Uswag Ilonggo Party-list first nominee and reelectionist Rep. James “Jojo” Jr. A. Ang, also addressed the crowd and reaffirmed their support for Treñas-Chu and the Team Uswag slate.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas urged the public to elect leaders who will sustain the city’s growth and development efforts.
