A criminal case was already filed against a 42-year-old man who allegedly raped and killed his cousin in Janiuay, Iloilo on Oct. 27, 2019.

Police Captain Dadje Delima, Janiuay police chief, said Rene (not his real name) was charged for rape with homicide in IS Number V1-11-inq-19J- 00977 which was filed Tuesday before Prosecutor Susanita Olin of the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutors Office.

Delima said they are still waiting for the court to issue a commitment order for the suspect’s detention at a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility.

Rene was arrested Sunday evening after his son tagged him in the rape-slay of Ronalyn Bravio, 19, of Barangay Abangay, Janiuay.

Rene’s son also retracted his earlier statement implicating three other persons in the crime.

The suspect initially denied but later on admitted to have raped and killed the victim.

He claimed that he fell for the victim but was afraid to pursue his love for her.

The suspect is estranged from his wife who works in Manila for eight years already.

A few hours after the body of Bravio was discovered around 6:50 p.m. of Saturday, Rene’s 15-year old son Nonoy was placed in police custody.

He then named an 18-year-old lad and two more persons as his cohorts.

Bravio, a Business Management student in a private college in Iloilo City, was found naked in a rice field.

Her boyfriend, a resident of Barangay Patong-Patong, Janiuay, discovered her body, with her hands and legs tied.

Delima said the victim suffered a stab injury on her abdomen, hematomas on her forehead and right eye, and hymenal laceration.

She was also choked to death.

Nonoy later said his father Rene forced him to make stories and implicate three other youngsters in Bravio’s rape-slay.

He claimed he was tired of lying for his father.

Nonoy also said that his conscience had been bogging him.
