BACOLOD City – Four members of the New People’s Army (NPA) and 25 alleged supporters of the rebel group voluntarily surrendered to the authorities in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental last week.
Two of them were members of the NPA Special Partisan Unit under the Leonardo Panaligan Command, and two others were members of Yunit Militia, according to a report from the Philippine Army.
They turned themselves in before the personnel of Guihulngan City Police Station and troopers of Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) on October 16.
The former combatants, who also surrendered two .38 caliber revolvers, are now under the custody of the City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (CT-ELCAC).
Mayor Carlo Jorge Joan Reyes, said in a statement, that more surrenderers are expected to follow, as others are now trying to reach out to signify their intention to return to the fold of the law.
“These waves of victories are what will ultimately become the tidal wave to wipe out insurgency in the city,” he added.
