RED PHOENIX MILES: Hua Siong blazing trail in education, excellence amid ‘new normal’

Responsive to the changing times and concerned for the welfare of its learners, Iloilo’s premier Filipino-Chinese institution Hua Siong College of Iloilo (HSCI) has continued to prove that it is truly the “Realm of the Red Phoenix, the Birthplace of Excellence, and the Home of the Champions,” as it launches a trailblazing program that will innovatively bring the school’s exemplary educational resources to their avid learner’s respective homes with ease.

Dubbed the Red Phoenix MILES (Maximum Impact LEarning Solution) program, this hybrid and online distance learning curriculum is the first of its kind in the region – with Hua Siong consulting internationally-respected experts on education technology and remote learning to craft a seamless and comprehensive program that will ensure that its learners’ studies remain undisrupted, even while they stay safe and secure in their own homes.

As early as February this year – as the country was only beginning to come to grips with the major public health concern we are now facing – HSCI began planning and mapping out its “new normal,” as the school looked to lead and pioneer in teaching and instruction in the world after COVID-19. Even while faced with the economic challenges of these circumstances, Hua Siong has retained its pool of 150 brilliant teachers, banking on their impressive skill sets as instructors and – in the last few months – training them to be adept at the state-of-the-art technology needed to optimize the Red Phoenix MILES virtual classroom and providing all teachers with a brand-new laptop and other modern equipment they need to better teach Hua Siong’s learners.

Offering this hybrid distance learning program from the Toddler, Pre-Nursery, Nursery, and Kinder levels, up to Grade School to Junior and Senior High School (Grade 11 and 12), HSCI is confident that it will continue to live up to the standards of its legacy, as one of the top-performing academic schools in the country – even as it rolls out this new educational technology system of learning, novel both to its learners and instructors.

Hua Siong is equipped and ready to offer two options for those who wish to enroll in the Red Phoenix MILES curriculum: 1) A Full Online Learning Program, a completely offsite mode of instruction that will not necessitate face-to-face on-campus attendance for learners during the entire school year; or 2) A Hybrid Distance Learning Program, that will be fully offsite and online during the First Grading Period, but will gradually transition back to reduced face-to-face on-campus classes in the succeeding quarters – once  learners and teachers alike ease into this “new normal.”

HSCI assures that in implementing its second option Hybrid Distance Learning Program in the near future, the school will strictly adhere to proper social and physical distancing protocols – as well as reduce the teacher to learner ratio and the size of class groups, to be more manageable and sustainable. This said program may shift to a fully online learning curriculum, if the need arises. No additional fees will be incurred if this shift is to be necessitated by the circumstances.

Hua Siong has also equipped itself to tackle any eventuality and overcome all challenges in the near future: The management has invested in upgraded high-speed internet and logistics connections to ensure that classes will not be interrupted by technical difficulties, as well as has acquired a brand new 500-kva generator to guarantee continuous online sessions in the event of a power failure. Prepared for the possibility of a renewed lockdown or a stricter community quarantine in the next few months, HSCI has designated the Ledesco Campus dormitory as housing for teachers to prepare for any eventuality, and make certain that the school year will be completed without a hitch.

With the school year slated to open July 29, 2020, Hua Siong’s enrollment period began June 1 and is set to proceed until July 10, 2020. In light of the current circumstance, the school administration has decided to graciously postpone the rollout of tuition fee increases supposed approved for this coming academic year. Taking into the account the economic impact of COVID-19, the HSCI administration has also decided to offer huge discounts for all enrollees this coming school year, as well as agree to a lower and more agreeable down payment scheme for all.

Hua Siong College of Iloilo is also introducing a special introductory discount of as high as 20% on total fees for early bird enrollees who register on or before June12, 2020 – with a down payment of as low as P5,500. Enrolment also entitles learners to a handful of other perks – including two weeks of free trial classes before the academic year opens in late July, and special discounts from partner vendors, for parents who wish to acquire new devices for their children ahead of the school year. HSCI has partnered with the Power Mac Center, Lenovo, and Computron to ensure competitive special discounts for its learners.

Join us in bringing “Hua Siong Education into your Homes,” as we continue to shape and hone the holistic development of our learners and carry on in embodying our mission “to educate young men and women to achieve excellence for the improvement of society and the environment” – through meaningful learning experiences facilitated in the safety of your own households.
